Who are
K-Netters?
Where did the Club Members come from?

1995 - 1997
Projects completed by learners at K-Net (now Knowledge Network) were published in Software World, in the K-Net Club Action section. The K-Net club ran countrywide and K-Netters received their Club projects via fax, via email, post or by hand.

How the morph was done
"I scanned in two images, then using HSC Digital Morph I morphed the two pictures over 70 frames. The result was a 10MB .avi file. The transition in the storyboard is very different from the transition in the video file. The difference is 61 frames. The video file runs for 10 seconds. It looks brilliant on screen. My next step is to create a sound track for the video. I am going to use Windows 95 media player, sound recorder and Corel 6 to put it all together.

The storyboard was the most difficult part to create and send to K-Net via e-mail. To do the storyboard, I used CorelPHOTO-PAINT 6 and Microsoft Powerpoint Version 7. I selected various key transition frames from the morph video, copied and pasted them into Powerpoint.

I had to compress the file to reduce the send and download time on the Internet. I was able to compress the file to 2,2MG before sending the file (it look me 25 minutes to send the file at 26400). The actual file size was 7,7Mb.

The file was originally intended to be part of the opening presentation at the K-Net/Microsoft Conference; ie. the storyboard followed by the video. That's why I used Powerpoint for the storyboard (kill two birds with one stone, right!!!!). of course the Powerpoint slide is far bigger than the actual bitmap. For the magazine, the file had to be converted to TIF format.

Guess what the bitmap file size was? 337Kb! It has been great fun preparing graphics and video stuff for the K-Net 1996 conference. My E-mail address is pcmiller@icon.co.za. send any interesting stuff to me of ideas - I am always on the lookout for new things." Greg Miller (14)

Nov 96 These are extracts from the Space Multimedia app developed by Ryan Ebedes during the K-Net VB Workshop for Teenagers. Ryan used VB 4 for the programming and CorelPhoto-Paint for the graphics.

Who were the K-Netters? What is the profile of a typical K-Netter?
Knowledge Network Club Members (previously known as K-Netters) are fun loving, they have a passion for things, whatever it may be. How is this for starters: computers, tennis, music, gymnastics, hockey, chess, swimming, graphics, stamp collecting, modeling, game playing, photography, fixing gadgets, programming, dancing, hiking, rock climbing, sailing, blading, animation, literature, making money, Knowledge Network etc.

They achieve what they want to achieve, they do what they want to do, they are go-getters. Most of all Knowledge Network Club Members are into ACTION - computer action, and having fun, making friends and joining what life at school and at home has to offer ...
